Create Your Own Color

14 Apr

I decided I want to post another challenge for you. This challenge is to create a new lip color. No you don’t have to make your own lipstick or lipgloss from scratch…just try mixing them together!

For example I have a lipstick color I really like but it’s a bit too opaque for me to wear everyday as I prefer glosses. Sometimes I’ll put a layer of sheer or light pink gloss on my lips and then put the lipstick over top. This gives me a bit of color and the shine of the gloss.

Some other ideas:

  • Mix together a couple of your favorite lipsticks and see what you get.
  • Add a nude lip color to a lipstick that is just too pink to get a nice pinky nude color
  • Try a vibrant lipstick OVER a light gloss and see what the result is

The possibilities are really endless. Ok – go try now  😉

Challenge–Step Away from that Comfort Zone

8 Apr

Even as a makeup artist  I find myself working in my comfort zone more often than not – whether it’s on a client or myself. I find myself using the same techniques and gravitating toward the same colors. Well right now I am going to challenge you (if anyone is actually reading this lol) to leave your comfort zone and try something new!

The great thing is   – if you don’t like it you can wash it off!

Bright colored lips are a big trend right now (and something I wouldn’t normally wear myself) so I have included a video on how to wear this seasons colors without feeling like a clown. (Please bear with me this is the first time I have tried using this web cam!)

These are a few of my favorite things…

1 Apr

I have a limited amount of time (baby doesn’t nap long and pre-schooler is home sick but watching tv) so I will probably split this into several posts.

Some of these I will have undoubtedly mentioned in other posts – they are my favorites after all .  I will link these products to the previous blog posts instead of regurgitating the information.

Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer

Tinted Moisturizer

Several reasons I love this:

      • It’s just the right color for my pale complexion
      • It has SPF 15 (although I would love it even more if it was SPF 30)
      • It makes my face look glowy and fresh without looking greasy

How do I love the let me count the ways.

Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion in Eden

I LOVE this product so much because:

  • on my skin tone  I can use it on my dark circles as a corrector/concealer and it helps any additional concealer to stay put (but I often only use this)
  • it evens out the color on my eyelids
  • it gives my eyeshadow staying power
  • it makes my eyeshadows appear more vibrant

Tarte Cheek Stain in Blissful

Tarte cheek stain

Blissful is a warm peachy pink color that looks absolutely amazing and glowy on almost everyone. Think Nars Orgasm but without the shimmer. It adds a bit of a dewy look to the complexion and blends beautifully.

Benefit High Beam

High Beam

This is my favorite highlighter by far. I like that it adds a natural glow without being obvious.  Some great places to use it (after foundation and before powder) are:

  • On the browbone just under the eyebrow
  • The inner corner of the eye near the tear duct (to helpyou look more awake)
  • On tops of the cheek bones
